GREENSBORO, North Carolina -- Ferrum College opened its football season on a high note with a 55-7 shellacking of non-conference opponent Greensboro College this afternoon at Jamieson Stadium. The Panthers rolled up 589 yards in total offense to Greensboro's 182.
Following a pair of Brad Green first-quarter field goals (26 yds, 42 yds), Roshun Patterson picked off an errant Greensboro pass at the Ferrum 18 yard line and scampered 82 yards for the pick-six with four minutes remaining in the quarter.
Joe Burris III scored Ferrum's first offensive points of the day when he took a handoff and bolted 32 yards to put Ferrum on top 20-0 at 11:59 of the second quarter. Brian Mann scored a pair of touchdowns before the half on runs of three and eight yards, and the lead was 34-0 at the break.
Collen Shaw scored on a 59-yard scoring strike from Zack Clifford at 9:35 of the third quarter to make the score 41-0, then Frank Ross scored the first of his two rushing touchdowns from five yards out to open the fourth quarter and extended the Panthers' lead to 48-0.
Ryan Wahl hauled in a 16-yard pass from Wyatt Beasey at 13:37 of the fourth to cut the lead to 48-7, helping the Pride avoid the shutout. Ross would run one in from six yards out with under three minutes left to play for the final count.
Mann rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries, while Ross had 69 yards and also found the end zone twice on 11 carries. Clifford was 10-17 through the air for 179 yards and a touchdown. Green was two-for-two in field goal attempts and was successful on all seven PATs. Beasey was 6-15 passing for 138 yards and a score, but was picked off twice. Greensboro was held to 27 yards rushing on the day.

Coach Rob Grande's team will host Averett University Saturday, September 21, during Ferrum's Hall of Fame Weekend. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at W.B. Adams Stadium.
