Raggett Hat Trick Fuels Ferrum Women

DANVILLE, Va. -- Ferrum College's women's soccer team picked up a non-conference win tonight on the road over Averett University, winning 4-1 at Campbell Stadium in the season opener for both squads.

Ferrum (1-0)
Averett (0-1)

Casey Raggett drew first blood for Ferrum, blasting a shot past Averett goalkeeper Morgann Dills in the seventh minute of play with Alex Mattson getting an assist. The Panthers carried the 1-0 lead into the break, then Mattson made it 2-0 with a goal in the 55th minute off a pass from Frances Best.

Raggett added a goal less than two minutes later with Kayla Lentini earning the assist, then scored her third goal of the night in the 61st minute to earn a rare hat trick, this time with Best getting the assist. Kirsten Clancy broke up the shutout with a goal in the waning seconds for the Cougars.

Coach Erin Saleeby's team will play its home opener Sunday, Sept. 1, against University of Mary Washington. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m. at Penn-Roediger Field.
