FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College posted a non-conference volleyball win tonight at home, beating Mary Baldwin University 3-2 at Swartz Gym. It was the Panthers' second five-set win over the Squirrels this season. Set scores were 19-25, 25-23, 18-25, 25-18, 17-15.

THE BASICS
Ferrum trailed early in the opening set, eventually falling 25-19 on an attack error. The Panthers led 22-21 in the second, finishing the set with a Mia Schaeffer kill off Ashley Roberts' set.

Mary Baldwin opened an insurmountable 14-1 lead in the third set. Ferrum rallied with a number of great points, but still lost the set by seven. In the fourth set, the score was tied 16-16 when Ferrum went on a 9-2 run, culminated by Ashlynn Willoughby's kill off a Roberts set, and evened the match at two sets each.

The Squirrels jumped out to an 8-4 lead in the fifth and deciding set, but Ferrum proved to be a tough nut and would not crack. Molly Patterson's kill and Layura Henley's service ace evened the score at 10-10. The two teams played evenly to 14-14, then Mary Baldwin grabbed a 15-14 lead off Rachel Christian's kill that gave her team match point. A bad Mary Baldwin set tied the score at 15-15, then Arielle Tritt closed the match out with a pair of monster service aces.

Willoughby led the team with 13 kills, while Patterson chipped in 10 kills and eight digs. Roberts dished out 24 assists and had 12 digs, and Tritt had 20 assists. Henley and Kayla Divers kept the Panthers in many points with outstanding defensive efforts, registering 16 and 14 digs, respectively. Cassidy Burke added eight kills and four digs.
