THE BASICS
Alfred State opened scoring with a pair of runs in the top the first inning. The Panthers answered with six runs in the bottom of the frame then Pioneers scored three in the second to trim the lead to 6-5.

Ferrum rallied for six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to open a comfortable 12-5 lead, picking up two on Dylan Sereno's RBI double to left center. Going quietly was the last thing on the Pioneers' minds, as they exploded for seven runs in the top of the fifth inning to deadlock the game at 12-12.

Neither team could muster a run for the next three innings, setting up an exciting ninth. Alfred State got things going in the top of the frame, but Ferrum relief pitcher Matthew Sheppard shut things down with a strikeout that left three Pioneer runners on base.

With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Sereno doubled to left. Grayson Chitwood then ripped a 1-1 pitch to left for an RBI double, allowing Sereno to score the game-winning run from second. Sereno, Chitwood, Benjamin Thomas and Justin Brady each collected a pair of base hits today.
